The JEE Alliance, a network for cooperation for global health security and IHR implementation, will meet on 22 January 2017 in Geneva, Switzerland. The meeting will discuss the current status of the WHO Joint External Evaluations (JEEs) and country planning, as well as ways to further accelerate health security capacity building and IHR implementation through multisectoral collaboration.

Throughout 2016, several important steps have been taken in advancing global health security and the implementation of the International Health Regulations (IHR (2005)). In February, WHO adopted the JEE tool for voluntary external country assessments to complement the IHR self-assessments. To date, 28 JEEs have been completed, with more than 20 countries having scheduled a JEE and a number of countries having expressed interest towards undergoing one in 2017.

There are currently 53 members in the JEE Alliance. It is open to all countries, international organizations, non-governmental actors and other stakeholders involved in global health security.

The 22 January meeting will be chaired by Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health of Finland, Dr Päivi Sillanaukee.
